Le Ballet de l'Acier
Mont Ventoux (Windy Mountain) rises above the Vaucluse near Carpentras in northwest Provence. It is the highest point in Provence that is not a part of the Alps. The summit of the peak is exposed limestone; the rock glitters like snow, but the peak is only snow-capped during the winter and early spring most years. The limestone of the peak is visible as the powerful winds of the Mistral prevent most vegetation from surviving on the exposed summit.
