Order of the Golden Fleece
Founded shortly after the Order of the Garter by Duke Phillip of Brugundy, styled the Good, in 1430. As with the English order, the Order of the Golden Fleece was devoted to the chivalric ideals of the Round Table, and the members of the order were granted considerable influence with their grand master and sovereign, the dukes of Burgundy.
After the title of the duke of Burgundy passed to the Habsburgs in 1482, the Order of the Golden Fleece became the highest monarchial order of Spain, which it remains today.
Knights of the order wear a jeweled gold collar marked by interlocking letters B; a pendant of a sheep’s pelt, the Golden Fleece, hangs from the collar.
