Campaign of the Month: August 2011
Le Ballet de l'Acier
Founded by Angela de Merici in 1535 as a congregation of women in Brescia, a vassal city-state of the Republic of Venice, the Company of Saint Ursula serves to educate women and care for the ill and indigent. Originally the members of the congregation lived seperately, meeting for conferences and devotions, but a number of French Ursuline communities have adopted enclosure in recent years.
Ursuline convent education for girls is very popular among the nobility and bourgeoisie.
