Description:

Carousing – Master

Bio:

Gaston is the brother of King Louis XIII and heir-presumptive to the throne of France should the childless Louis die. Called simply “Monsieur,” the traditional title of the King’s brother, Gaston (b. 1608) is a bon vivant, wildly popular with the people of France and adored by his doting mother, Marie de’ Medici. He is at once ambitious and irresponsible, with a taste for debauched excess.

Surrounded by a cadre of young nobles, until recently his closest ally was Jean-Baptiste d’Ornano, comte de Montlaur, the prince’s personal governor, but in May 1626 the MarĂ©chal d’Ornano was arrested by order of the king for misconduct. Monsieur is said to be furious at the affront from his brother.
