Oratorians

Like the Jesuits, the Oratorians are a congregation of secular priests rather than an order of friars. Founded in 1611 by Cardinal Pierre de BĂ©rulle in Paris, the Oratorians share a common philosphy centered on the human aspects of Jesus Christ and a tradition of Christian mysticism. Oratorians occupy important positions as spiritual advisors to powerful members of the royal family and the nobility, including Monsieur.

The doctrines of the Gallican Oratorians are bitterly opposed by the ultramontanist Jesuits.
