Clubs
A Gentlemen’s Club is a social institiution where members may go to drink, carouse, and gamble. Clubs look after their members. If a member is attacked, others will come to his aid. If he is captured, the Club may attempt to rescue or ransom him. Other Club members may be loyal seconds if a character gets into a duel.
Gentlemen’s Clubs may draw their members from the population of the city where they are located, across a province or similar region, or even from across the entire kingdom; for example, the clubs in Paris, generally considered to be the most cosmopolitan of the clubs, include members from nearly every province as well as across the borders of France. A Gentleman’s Club may include reciprocal membership with clubs located elsewhere: a member of The Black Cross will be welcome at clubs in Paris, Marseille, London, or Venice, for example.
