Campaign of the Month: August 2011
Le Ballet de l'Acier
Dragoons are mounted infantry. They are organized not in squadrons or troops like the cavalry, but in companies like foot soldiers, and their officers and non-commissioned officers bear infantry ranks. Dragoon regiments employ drummers in the infantry style, rather than cavalry trumpeters, to communicate orders on the battlefield. The flexibility of mounted infantry makes dragoons a useful arm, employed in the field as scouts and protecting lines of communication and supply, and by the provost-marshals against bandits or smugglers.
